If you know me personally, you can figure out pretty easily that I am my own worst critic. I give myself hell for some absolutely ridiculous things- but I am working on it, I promise!
One thing that I have accidentally engrained in my mind is that there is a “type” of photographer that I am supposed to be. I do a lot of natural light portrait photography and have a business based around this. Somehow I have wound up treating my photography as if it is something that needs to be confined within that title- almost like defining a college major and not being allowed to take any classes outside of that realm.
The thing is, this is real life, and photography is something I enjoy for a variety of reasons. I enjoy documenting life through photos and I am very fortunate to have platforms such as social media and this website to share them upon. Therefore, I have got to stop hiding again!
The new year has given me an opportunity to consider a lot of things I want to change about my photography. One thing I want to do a lot more of is documenting the simple moments again. I bought a new lens that I have found is perfect for day to day shooting, and I am way too excited.
So, to be reminded of why I want to stop channeling 100% of my energy into portraits and instead make it 100% feel-good photos of all varieties, here’s a look into some past pieces of my life in snapshots- beyond the portraits.
